I was saddened to hear on the news last week that the singer Prince had died. His music was part of the soundtrack of my twenties and featured on many a mix-tape. The Diamonds & Pearls album was one of the first albums I bought on CD…and I played it over and over on my trusty house-sized JVC stereo system.
This weeks make was inspired by the legendary singer – in particular his song Kiss, which never fails to get me signing along.
As you can see in the picture above, I have made a pair of companion wall hangings as I felt these two lines just sing out to be together, and of course the colour scheme had to be purple!
I have hand embroidered the lyrics in purple floss onto pieces of vintage linen. I then framed the words with a border of iridescent sequins, each individual sequin has been attached by hand – I reckon i’ll be finding sequins stuck to my clothes for days to come! These pieces have then been mounted onto rich purple wool felt and hung from wooden doweling & sparkly silver ribbon.
I ‘signed’ the pieces with Prince’s autograph – searching on the net I discovered he had wonderfully florid writing and often used hearts to dot his i’s. The eagle eyed amongst you will notice that I’ve accidentally missed the heart on one of the pieces.
