Last year I bought some artwork from illustrator Ella Masters – very sadly her mother passed away unexpectedly from Asthma and to raise funds for charity she sold off some of her original pieces. So for me it was a win win..I got to support someone doing something great for a charity close to their heart and get some fantastic original art.
There is something really wonderful about having a piece of original art – it just gives me the feels! Don’t get me wrong – I’m not above buying and owning a print either, if it’s a piece I love then i’ll have it any way I can afford it!
So the piece in question for this weeks year long creativity challenge is a quote from JK Rowling‘s Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: “The thing about growing up with Fred and George,” said Ginny thoughtfully, “is that you sort of start thinking anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve.” beautifully hand painted by Ella.
I’ve been looking for a box frame for this, but couldn’t find a portrait shaped one. Then remembered I had a square one tucked away in my crafting stash – a slight tweak to Ella’s artwork removing the credit to JK Rowling* and it was the right shape.
The frame is a cheap n’ cheerful pine number so I painted it with some Claypaint in ‘Gregory’s Den’ to posh it up a bit and mounted the artwork in charcoal grey…and voila! Now I would love to really pimp up the frame as per Steve‘s style from Nicholas & Steele – his floral stuff is divine, but alas my paint skills are not a shade on his, so I shall just be content with my mediocre skills! I am pleased with how it’s all come together, and at some point in the future, when cottage renovations allow this will be given a spot on my bedroom wall.
*I appreciate that some will think that this is sacrilege. I’ve popped the JK Rowling credit onto the back.
